Many beneficial uses of the estuary are impaired including beaches, quality water, and fish and wildlife habitat.

  • Increase of invasive species and decrease of native diversity
  • Fish deformities
  • Degradation of fish population
  • Eutrophication: overgrowth of algae
  • Water can’t support wildlife due to low levels of dissolved oxygen
  • Beach closings due to E. coli
  • Sediment is saturated with harmful PCB’s
  • Excessive sediment deposition has caused decreased oxygen levels in water
